City of Salisbury presents print to Maryland governor

SALISBURY — Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan was presented an Erick Sahler Serigraphs print during a visit to the Eastern Shore in April. The print was a gift from the City of Salisbury and was given to the governor by Mayor Jim Ireton as a group of city, county and state officials looked on.

The governor was in Salisbury to tour the city’s Third Friday celebration. He was accompanied by his wife, Yumi, who is an artist. Also in attendance were Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver, Salisbury City Council President Jake Day, Wicomico County Council President Bob Cannon, Councilman Larry Dodd, State’s Attorney Matt Maciarello and state Delegates Chris Adams and Addie Eckardt.

Sahler’s “City Park” print is from a limited-edition hand-pulled silkscreen edition created in 2013. It depicts the city’s iconic footbridge and bandstand.

“My grandparents celebrated in City Park after graduating from Wicomico High in 1939, I went there after prom in 1985, and now I take my children there to play. Salisbury’s City Park has been a place of natural beauty and recreation for Eastern Shore residents for generations. I hope it can be a reminder to the governor of all the great things about my hometown,” Sahler said.

The presentation took place on the Downtown Plaza at Tony Weeg Photography, which hosted the exhibit “Print is Not Dead: The Silkscreen Art of Erick Sahler” throughout the month of April.
