“Yaasss Queen” (2019)

“This old Dairy Queen sign stirs fond memories from my youth, and of the special treat on Fridays when my schoolteacher Dad got paid and our family came to town for dinner. Waiting outside while our meal cooked was excruciating, as the savory smells of chargrilled burgers and onions wafted past. We ate in our car, parked on a dirt lot. Afterward, we joined the long line for dessert — always a dipped cone for me. When I got my license at age 16, the first place I drove alone was to Dairy Queen and even though the original building in my hometown was demolished long ago, I still have a brick from to remember it by.” — Erick Sahler
